The Austrian Student’s Union was founded in 1945 in Vienna by socialist, catholic and communist students. The first ÖH elections took place in 1946. Its result: 75% “ÖVP-nahe Union österreichische Akademiker / FÖST” (ÖVP-friendly union of Austrian academics), 21.7% VSStÖ, “Kommunistische Studentengruppe” (communist student group) 3% – a foundation for 80 years of successful student representation.
